Are you living in your phone?

This is Birdie's 9th personal article
Once, I'm living in my phone most of the time.
Whenever the night falls. I will lie on my bed, under, my blanket scrolling through my phone. Even though there’s nothing to do with me on my phone, I will still scroll through every social media if I can. Until the phone falls off from my hand and slaps my face, then I’ll know. Maybe, it’s time to sleep.
Recently, whenever I go out with my friends, it’s not hard to spot this kind of scenery. All of us have our heads down and eyesight resting on a 6-inch screen, scrolling through different social media. It seems that all of us prefer to socialise on social media instead of talking to one another.
Hey, look! Why do we have to let our phones give us the permission for us to sleep? Why do we need our phones to do all the talking for us when we are right in front of each other? There are many other times that phone comes in the game. Why do we need our phone to experience our life for us every single time?

I don’t know about you but for me, I don’t want my life memories to be using my phone all the time. And if you’re the same, I’ve been doing these few small actions to take my phone out of the equation for living my life.
Wait, taking my phone out of the equation for living my life doesn’t mean that I stop using it at all, I’ll just choose the right time to use it.

Put your phone away from bed
First, is to take your phone away from your bed from sleeping. I know it might be hard at the start and you will just roll around on your bed and not feel sleepy at all. Because it happened to me. But I found a hack for this. Which is to read books. Not only it will help you to go to bed quicker, it will also prevent you from wandering all over the place and increase your temptation for using your phone.
But by reading, I do not recommend those exciting horror or romance kind of book because if you get hooked on. There goes your sleep. So what I personally read is all those self-development books, normally it only takes 2 pages to get this lazy Bird sleepy. Although it’s only a few pages each night, after a long time you will still accumulate a lot of knowledge even if you do not remember every single thing that you read.

Put your phone out of your sight
Even though I say keep your phone out of your sight, I don’t mean by keeping it 10 thousand miles away, but make sure you don’t see it hovering all over you while you are with your friends. Not seeing your phone all the time means that there’s nothing to keep reminding you about your phone. Thus, the first step of not using phones while you’re with your friend.
Of course, your friends still might be using phone and all that because it has become a habit in all of us. But this habit can change and it can start with you. Once you stopped using your phones then you can ask your friends to stop with you. It might start being a bit awkward but look forward to the amazing things that can happen.

See the world with your own eyes
Lastly, I want to share something that I personally relate very much.
See the world with you own eyes, not through your camera. With the rise of Instagram and Snapchat. All of us start to share the major and minor things that happened in our life. However, this action may rip away some of your precious experiences.
I do not mean by stop using it to share about your life at all. In fact, I use it too. But, what I want to say is, it’s okay to share like what’s going on with your life, just not to the extreme detail.
If you fall under the part where you take like every single bit of your life to the extreme detail. The brutal truth is here. Not only people don’t give a shit about what’s going on with you, you also make yourself distracted from the event and not having your most out the whatever you are going through.
It’s okay to take a Snapchat or InstaStory to share with us what you are doing. But, think twice next time if you want to show us your step by step journey to East Coast Park.
Smartphone is an awesome invention, it had definitely improved our living standard tremendously. But it is still an accessory although it’s very powerful. Make sure you have the ultimate control of your life, not your phone.
If you find this relatable to you. Please share and subscribe to my mailing list. Also, feel free to drop any comments below
