This is Birdie's 13th personal article.

I’m not sure if you guys read this book before, the “Rich Dad Poor Dad”. It simply helps one to improve one’s financial intelligence. And the from the phrase financial intelligence, I bet you guys already realise that it’s the mindset that sets the difference between the wealthy and the poor.

Bet you guys have heard about the stories of extremely broke people becoming extremely wealthy. And of course, those who suddenly have a lot of money because of lottery or family. They often have no idea how to manage it.

It all boils down to the mindset they have, that’s why there’s a saying says if you take all the money from Richard Branson, he will still end up being a billionaire after some time.

So here in this post, I’m sharing a few points that will help us to cultivate the rich mindset in us. Here in this post, the rich and poor does not mean to be your financial state. It means the mindset that you have.

Value your time.

Come out tomorrow, let’s go catch a movie!

Atlantis is coming up, let’s go clubbing together!

Don’t you dare to pangseh us! Since you have nothing to do at home as well, why not come online and game with me!

Poor people once face this kind of invitations, they will immediately accept and go with them. Even to the extent that it might mess up the original plan that you have. Because they don’t value time. Since they don’t see much of a value in time, it is perfectly fine for them to invest time into having

However, after many years. They might find themselves where they were at a few years back. Or might be even worse.

Why so?

When you don’t value time, time don’t value you. You don’t create value for your time, time won’t make any wealth for you either.

For those in business course. I’m sure you know this term, Opportunity cost. With means, the cost for you to do Plan A is the cost of Plan B to Plan Z all combined.

Take me for example, I dedicate my every Sunday to create content for you guys through my blog. The cost will the sum everything of social time I can spend with my friends, fitness if I go to gym, monetary if I go to work, leisure if I choose to relax and else more.

For me, I find creating contents like this outweighs everything else combined. So I will keep doing it.

And if you go study a bit about those extremely successful people. It’s not hard to find that they have one thing in common. The put time as their top priority. Even higher than their wealth, their fame and the comments they receive.

You might say, of course they value their time so much! They are in that state with so much responsibilities, they have no choice to but to put time as their top priority. Unfortunately, you are wrong. The respect they have for time is not the end result of their success but rather than the reason for their success.

It's always other's fault

With our society having more and more freedom and choices. Being poor is no longer a problem of luck, but your intelligence and character. Because, if are willing enough. You can always find the ways to study and even find ways to make yourself a fortune.

Not enough knowledge, there’s internet.

Not enough skill set, there’s courses you can take to upgrade yourself.

Not opportunities, you can keep upgrading yourself till the level you want. Then mix in the bigger circle and look for opportunities there. One of the ways is to subscribe to my mailing list so every Sunday, you will receive my ways to improve directly to your mailbox XD

With that being said, how your life is like is totally based on your decisions. The older to grow, the more responsibilities you have over yourself. So, don’t blame your failure on others. Maybe there is some fault in others, but overemphasizing it will only make yourself miss out the opportunity to grow yourself.

Because blaming everybody in the world will only make no difference to your life.

If you are unhappy with where you are right now. Take some action, leave your negative social circle, find some new circle for you to join and learn from them. Keep improving yourself in every aspect of your life and look for new opportunities.

In conclusion, whichever action you take, it might bring a difference to your life.

Place their bet of changing their lives into luck.

Everybody wants to be wealthy, but instead of taking action to change their life. They hope for a miracle to happen that can make them wealthy overnight. I

t’s not hard to find people like this. Trust me, I bet you have friends like this too.

Let me give you an example. In the previous one year in poly, I had gained some networks in various places. So I was sharing with my friend and say that I’m in this network that I can ask for any internship opportunity and they can help me find a company for me to join and learn.

My friend was amazed and envious. So he asked me to introduce him into places for him to know people like this or for him to join networks like that.

Of course I’m happy to help, so I told them he can join YES2017 and from there, he can start knowing more people. But his replies was something like this.

"I’m not really interested in entrepreneurship and attending this kind of event. I just want to have the network. "

And at that instance I’m like. What? I started building my network from there, and the only reason why I’m offered to say that I can ask for any internship in any industry is because I have been appearing in conferences and putting in work to prove my work ethic.

But he wants to skip my entire process and immediately get to the end result of what I have after putting in the effort for at least the past 6 months.

So my reply was sorry, I can’t straight away introduce you in. It would be a miracle for that to happen.

Let’s think about yourself now, do you always have wanted to achieve something. But when you know how complicated the process is in order to achieve it. You backed out and looked for shortcuts?

It’s normal because I do also, but what we need to get into our mind is.

Life is a marathon instead of 100m sprint. In order to get what you want, you have to constantly prove yourself.

Don't want to invest

Here, invest doesn’t mean financial investments that you need to put thousands of cash in. In our context, invest means investing into yourself.

There’s a book called: “Nickel and Dimed : Undercover in Low-wage USA” by Barbara Ehrenreich. Which she wrote about her experience when she undercover herself into the low-wage society of USA to experience the life of the poor.

And the single conclusion that she got after experiencing it herself was. In order to get out of the poor society, the only way is to invest in yourself.

Use time and money to make yourself more competitive. Learning a new language, a new skill or cultivate a new habit. Any of this will increase your personal value.

And on the market of free trade, you will get yourself better opportunities and have a higher salary. Some of us, because we are brought up being poor, we might not be equipped with the right decision-making matrix and discipline. So we would rather use the time and money into pleasure instead of investing in ourselves.

In the long run, you know what will happen to you. And that’s not the right thing to do. Because, this kind of investments, will lead your life the wrong way. You will remain poor and hopeless. Then when you have a child, you will want your child to help you achieve what you didn’t achieve. And with that, you will become and control freak poor dad/mom.

So, change your mindset, invest in yourself. Change your lifestyle and work harder. Don’t rely on others for your success. It’s your own responsibility for your personal success.
